If you've recently received a letter from Anthem saying your dental or vision plan is being discontinued, your first reaction may have been concern.
The good news is that this does not mean you're losing dental coverage immediately, nor does it mean Anthem is leaving the market.
Instead, Anthem is discontinuing certain Anthem Extras individual dental and vision plans, and affected members will need to select a replacement plan before their current coverage ends.
At EPIA Insurance Agency Inc., we're already helping clients understand these changes and navigate their next steps.
What Is Changing?
According to Anthem's notice, specific Anthem Extras dental and vision plans will no longer be offered after December 31, 2026.
If you're enrolled in one of these plans:
Your current coverage remains active through December 31, 2026
You should continue paying your premiums as usual until your coverage ends.
You'll need to choose a new dental and/or vision plan before your current policy expires.
This is a product change—not the end of Anthem's dental or vision insurance offerings.
Do You Need to Take Action?
Yes—but there's no need to panic.
If your current plan is being discontinued, it's important to begin reviewing your replacement options before the end of the year.
Waiting until the last minute could leave you with fewer choices or create unnecessary stress.
Planning ahead gives you time to compare benefits, provider networks, and monthly premiums so you can select the plan that best fits your needs.
You May Qualify for a Special Enrollment Period
Because your current plan is ending, Anthem has indicated that affected members qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP).
This allows eligible members to enroll in a replacement plan without waiting for the next annual Open Enrollment.
The SEP generally extends 60 days before and 60 days after your current coverage ends.
This provides valuable flexibility, but it's still recommended to review your options as early as possible.

Don't Wait Until Your Coverage Ends
Receiving a cancellation or non-renewal notice doesn't necessarily mean you've lost your coverage—it simply means it's time to start planning for what's next.
If you've received a letter from Anthem and you're unsure what it means, we're here to help.
Together, we'll review your options and help you find the right dental or vision plan before your current coverage expires.
