If you’re on Medicare, October 15 through December 7 is one of the most important times of the year. This is the Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) — your chance to review your coverage, make changes, and ensure your plan fits your health and budget needs.

At EPIA Insurance Agency Inc., we know how overwhelming this window can feel. But with the right guidance, it’s also an opportunity to get better coverage, save money, and reduce stress for the year ahead.

Here’s what you can change right now during Open Enrollment.

1. Switch Between Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage

If you’re currently enrolled in Original Medicare, you can switch to a Medicare Advantage Plan (Part C) that may offer additional benefits like dental, vision, or wellness programs.Or if your Advantage Plan isn’t meeting your needs, you can return to Original Medicare.

Tip: Compare provider networks and out-of-pocket costs before making a change.

2. Change Your Medicare Advantage Plan

Not all Medicare Advantage Plans are the same. They differ in costs, coverage, and provider networks. If your current plan no longer works for you, this is the time to shop around.

Tip: Think about the doctors you want to keep, your regular prescriptions, and your travel habits before choosing a new plan.

3. Update or Enroll in a Prescription Drug Plan (Part D)

Prescription drug needs change over time. The Annual Enrollment Period is when you can add, drop, or switch your Part D plan. This matters because drug formularies (lists of covered medications) change every year — and sticking with the wrong plan could cost you hundreds more.

Tip: Always check if your current medications are covered affordably under your plan.

4. Add Supplemental Coverage (Medigap)

If you’re on Original Medicare, you can consider adding a Medigap plan to help cover deductibles, copays, and coinsurance. While Medigap has its own enrollment rules, Open Enrollment is the perfect time to review whether additional protection makes sense.

Tip: Talk with an advisor to see if adding Medigap now could save you money later.

Why This Period Matters

The choices you make between October 15 and December 7 will take effect on January 1 — and will stay with you for the entire year. That’s why it’s so important to get it right.

At EPIA Insurance Agency Inc., our goal is to simplify the process. We’ll review your current plan, explain your options, and make sure you feel confident about your Medicare decisions.
